
Bridging Bangladesh and Japan
Abdul Haque has been a true architect of Bangladesh–Japan economic relations, earning the reputation of “Mr. Japan” for his lifelong dedication to fostering trade, investment, and mutual trust between the two nations. As Former President of the Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JBCCI) and Co-Chairman of JBCCEC, he pioneered initiatives that attracted Japanese investment in automobiles, energy, and infrastructure, while promoting Bangladeshi products and entrepreneurs in Japan. In recognition of his extraordinary contribution, the Government of Japan honored him with the prestigious “Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette”, awarded by the Emperor of Japan in 2022—an international acknowledgment of his vision, leadership, and enduring role as a bridge between the two economies.

After independence, Abdul Haque began his business career in 1974 with very limited resources. Despite immense challenges, his resilience and vision kept him moving forward.

In 1989, Abdul Haque established Haque’s Bay, which evolved into Haque’s Bay Automobiles Ltd. in 1997. He became the pioneer of Bangladesh’s reconditioned car industry

Beyond entrepreneurship, Abdul Haque emerged as a national policy influencer. Elected six times as Director of FBCCI, he advocated for reforms in taxation, customs, and SME development.
